FAQ
Why put alcohol in tinctures?
Alcohol is the most effective solvent when it comes to extracting all the beneficial properties and constituents from plants. It is also a natural preservative, which means no unnatural and potentially harmful preservatives are added.
Alternatives such as glycerin, propylene glycol, and vinegar may be used as solvents for tinctures—albeit at a much lower effect. For this reason, we have opted to exclusively use alcohol as our solvent for the time being.
For those that are concerned about ingesting alcohol, consider this: around 30-40 drops of Blue Lotus Tincture has the same alcohol content as an overripe banana. You can also evaporate around 50% of the alcohol content by putting a dose in boiling water, then letting it cool for 5-10 minutes.
Why is sublingual (under the tongue) administration recommended?
Sublingual administration is naturally fast acting because the plant properties re directly absorbed into your body through the mucous membranes in beneath the tongue. Oral administration (swallowing), introduces plant properties to your digestive system, which makes absorption slower and less effective.
Can I use tinctures every day?
Consult a qualified healthcare professional for such matters.
Our tinctures can be used everyday. However, we strongly suggest taking a one week break every four week to counteract tolerance and to give your body time to reestablish equilibrium.
What if I feel no effects?
This is normal. Many of us may expect immediate and obvious effects, so we are get disappointed when our experience doesn't meet our expectations.
Instead, think of our products as plant medicines like those used in Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurveda. The effect will be more subtle and will build with time.
That being said, each person will respond to each plant differently. We suggest starting with a low dose and slowly increasing dosage.
My tincture tastes bad. Is something wrong?
Many tinctures won't taste great. Some herbalists may decide to add honey or other natural flavorings for ease of consumption. At NOUCHALI, have decided to keep our products free from any additives, natural or otherwise.
If, however, you taste anything rancid, your tincture may have gone bad, in which case immediate cease use.
